
MEET
Julian A. McTizic Sr.

Julian Anderson McTizic, Sr. is a proud native of Bolivar, Tennessee, located in Hardeman County. On July 1, 2017, at just 30 years old, he made history as the youngest and first African American elected Mayor of the City of Bolivar. He was re-elected in May 2021 by the largest margin of victory in the city’s recorded history. Prior to his tenure as mayor, he served four years as a member of the Bolivar City Council.

Since assuming office, Mayor McTizic has successfully recruited two new industries to Bolivar, resulting in more than 200 new jobs and nearly $15 million in capital investment in the local economy. His leadership has been characterized by a steadfast commitment to community and economic development, civic engagement, and regional collaboration.

Julian is actively involved in numerous civic and professional organizations. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with the Bolivar Chapter of Rotary International, a member of the Bolivar General Hospital Healthcare Foundation, and an active member of the NAACP. In addition to his local service, he serves on the Board of Trustees for the Western Mental Health Institute. At the state level, he currently holds the positions of President of the Tennessee Municipal League (TML) and President of the West Tennessee Mayors Association.

He is also a member of the Executive Board of the Southwest Tennessee Development District, a Tennessee Certified Economic Developer through the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and serves as the West Tennessee Coordinator for the Tennessee Renewable Energy & Economic Development Council (TREEDC). Mayor McTizic is a graduate of Hardeman County Leadership, the 2018 Class of the University of Tennessee’s WestStar Leadership Program, and the Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute.

His leadership and service have been recognized through numerous awards and honors, including the African American Emerging Leader Award, the Tennessee State NAACP Race Relations Trailblazer Award, the 2018 Rising Phoenix Award, the 2019 TREEDC Community Champion Award, the 2023 TREEDC Excellence in Economic Development Award, and the 2023 Top Political Global Leadership Award.

In 2021, Mayor McTizic was appointed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Local Government Advisory Committee, where he also serves as Vice Chair of its Small Community Subcommittee.

Outside of public service, Mayor McTizic has enjoyed a successful 11-year career as a licensed insurance agent and is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Above all, he values family, faith, and service. He and his wife of 17 years, Demetria, are the proud parents of four sons — Julian Jr., Jamison, Jaxton, and Jules. His love for his family and community continues to inspire his dedication to public service.
